KEYNOTE SPEAKER: DANIEL ROUKEMA

Daniel is an award-winning leader known for his grassroots innovation and strategic insight. As CEO of MDR Strategy Group Ltd. in Halifax, he supports non-profit and public sector organizations with strategic communications, governance, organizational design, and public engagement solutions that strengthen safer, healthier, and more equitable communities. His firm’s work spans local agencies to international partners, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

With three decades of experience, Daniel is a respected facilitator, instructor, and speaker, and has played a major role in advancing consumer protection efforts across Canada. He led transformational projects at provincial and national levels and is the creator of the Canadian Regulatory Guide, RegulatoryJobs.ca, and The Registrar magazine.

Daniel’s long record of community service includes board roles with United Way Halton & Hamilton, the Centre for Entrepreneurship Education and Development, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa, the Social Planning Council of Ottawa, and Child Find Nova Scotia, where he helped launch the province’s Amber Alert program. He currently serves on the Board of King’s-Edgehill School.

He holds a BA in Political Science and International Development Studies from Dalhousie University and has pursued advanced studies in community economic development, EU external relations, digital business strategy, and will complete an MBA from the University of Cumbria in 2024.

Each year at our Annual Conference, we honour the individuals and organizations who go above and beyond to strengthen New Brunswick’s non-profit housing sector. These awards recognize the dedication, innovation, and leadership that ensure safe, affordable housing remains at the heart of our communities.

Marie-Rose Chiasson, Logements Tracadie

Volunteer of the Year – Alex Arseneau Award

For nearly two decades, Marie-Rose Chiasson has been a driving force behind Logements Tracadie, serving on the Board of Directors with unwavering commitment and heart. Currently the Chair of the Board, she has previously taken on roles as Treasurer and Secretary, consistently bringing leadership, clarity, and energy to every responsibility she carries.

Ms. Chiasson’s dynamism inspires both long-standing members and newcomers alike. Under her guidance, the board continues to pursue ambitious new affordable housing developments for the Tracadie region, fueled by her steady encouragement and vision for what the community can achieve.

Her impact extends well beyond board meetings. Over the years, she has been deeply involved in numerous community initiatives—always the first to roll up her sleeves, offer support, and bring people together. Her warm presence and sense of humour strengthen the team around her and help create the positive, collaborative environment needed to advance meaningful housing projects.

Ms. Chiasson’s dedication, leadership, and community spirit make her an invaluable champion for affordable housing and a deserving recipient of this recognition.

Mathieu Rouleau, Board Member of NBNPHA

GARY GLAUSER LEADERSHIP AWARD

Mathieu Rouleau has demonstrated exemplary leadership and dedication in the non-profit housing sector, making him a highly deserving recipient of this year’s Gary Glauser Leadership Award.

In his volunteer capacity with the New Brunswick Non‑Profit Housing Association and through his service on the organization’s Board of Directors, Mathieu has brought strategic vision, collaborative spirit, and a commitment to advancing affordable housing in our region. His ability to engage with both seasoned board members and new faces has been essential in moving forward the Association’s goals.

Beyond his board service, Mathieu has consistently leveraged his professional strengths — including finance, governance, and stakeholder engagement — to benefit the non-profit housing sector. His efforts to build partnerships, foster innovation, and navigate complex challenges have helped strengthen the ability of housing organizations to serve communities with integrity and impact.

Through his leadership, volunteerism, and deep commitment to social responsibility, Mathieu Rouleau embodies the spirit of the Gary Glauser Leadership Award, celebrating individuals who go above and beyond to create positive, lasting change in the non-profit housing field.
