How can we better support you as a member?

What We Heard from You

Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to our question about how we can better support you as members. We really appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts, ideas, and concerns.

It was encouraging to hear that many of you feel supported and are happy with the information and services you’re receiving. We also heard some clear themes about where we can do more.

What stood out to us:

  • More training: Members would like practical sessions on board roles, meetings, financial oversight, difficult conversations, conflict resolution, recruitment, and succession planning.

  • Building management: There is interest in resources around maintaining older buildings, renovations, reserves, insurance, and managing rising operating costs.

  • Building more housing: Members would like more support navigating funding, zoning, government programs, and the development process for new non-profit housing.

  • Practical resources: Templates, guides, sample plans, mentoring, QuickBooks training, and other "how-to" resources would be valuable.

  • Rising costs: Insurance, maintenance, professional fees, and other operating expenses are putting pressure on housing providers. Members would appreciate benchmarks and information to help manage these challenges.

  • Membership and advocacy: We heard concerns about recruiting new members and volunteers, succession planning, and the need for stronger advocacy around funding and other issues affecting non-profit housing.

What’s next?

Your feedback gives us good direction. We will be looking at ways to provide more practical training and resources, support housing development, share useful information and benchmarks, and strengthen advocacy on issues that matter to our members.

We were also happy to hear that the bi-weekly TLRO sessions have been helpful, and we will continue looking for ways to build on these opportunities.

Thank you again for your feedback—and especially for the work you continue to do in your communities. Your input helps us understand how we can better support you moving forward.
