NBNPHA ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2025
May 29–31, 2025 | Fredericton, NB
More than 225 members, Housing NB staff, speakers, and community partners joined us in Fredericton for three days of learning, connection, and collaboration.
Together, we explored new ideas, shared sector insights, and built momentum toward stronger housing solutions for New Brunswick.
Dr. Carolyn Whitzman – Fixing Canada’s Housing Crisis
Dr. Carolyn Whitzman, senior housing researcher at the University of Toronto and co-author of Home Truths: Fixing Canada’s Housing Crisis, delivered a powerful keynote that placed today’s housing crisis in historical context and offered clear, data-driven solutions. She reminded us that homelessness and housing insecurity are not inevitable, but the result of decades of policy choices. Drawing on international examples and her work with the Housing Assessment Resource Tools (HART) project, Dr. Whitzman called for bold, coordinated action—including scaling up non-market housing to levels once seen in the 1970s. Her message was both sobering and hopeful: we know what works, and with the political will, we can ensure housing as a human right for all
"This event reminded me that we are not alone in this work—we are part of a larger movement."
"The energy in the room gave me hope that change is not only possible—it’s happening."
"Every session offered something real—real tools, real stories, real momentum."
Each year at our Annual Conference, we honour the individuals and organizations who go above and beyond to strengthen New Brunswick’s non-profit housing sector. These awards recognize the dedication, innovation, and leadership that ensure safe, affordable housing remains at the heart of our communities.
