SECTOR ADVOCACY

Strengthen policy influence

We advocate for policies and processes that support the community housing sector in new brunswick.

  • The Government of New Brunswick is renewing the Residential Tenancies Act in 2026. We are advocating for improvements to benefit community housing organizations.

  • Qualified non-profit housing providers receive a 50% property tax exemption. That said, we are advocating for further property tax relief to help lower operating costs.

  • We are continually seeking opportunities and processes to help ensure the long-term sustainability of community housing in New Brunswick.

Raise pUBLIC AWARENESS

We need to recruit about 300 new board members to the community housing sector now.

  • About 1,000 volunteers govern our 170 non-profit and co-op housing members. About 30% of those volunteers would like to retire in the next year or two. We are launching a province-wide campaign in May to recruit a future generation of community housing leaders.

COLLABORATE WITH GOVERNMENT

  • The NBNPHA Executive team meets quarterly with the Housing NB minister and senior staff to discuss issues and opportunities on behalf of our members.

  • We will be sharing information with members in the summer of 2026 to take to their MPs, MLAs, and municipal elected officials in fall 2026.

Conduct Research

we Commission and complete studies to provide data-driven insights that support advocacy efforts.

  • We include ongoing surveys in weekly newsletters to learn more about how we can serve our members and advocate on their behalf.
