Thank you to all members who participated in the October 1, 3 Question Survey. Your responses provide valuable insight into the experiences, practices, and priorities of New Brunswick's non-profit housing sector. Below are the results and key takeaways from last week's survey, highlighting trends and perspectives that help inform future learning, collaboration, and sector support.
Which areas of your buildings do you feel need the most energy-efficiency improvements?
results breakdown
Heating systems were the biggest concern, with 15 members identifying them as an area needing improvement. Insulation and air sealing, along with windows and doors, were also common responses. This suggests that members are particularly focused on improvements that could help reduce energy use, control costs, and improve tenant comfort.
Other areas, including roofs, ventilation, lighting, hot water, and building controls, were mentioned less often but are still areas where improvements could be made.
Has your organization completed an energy audit or energy assessment of any of your buildings?
results breakdown
There is a mix of experience among members. Eight organizations have completed an energy audit or assessment within the past two years, while another six completed one more than two years ago.
At the same time, 10 organizations either have not completed an assessment, are considering one, or are unsure. For these organizations, support with arranging an assessment and understanding the results could help them identify where to focus their limited resources.
What type of support would be most helpful to your organization in improving energy efficiency?
Results Breakdown
Funding and grants were by far the most common response, with 18 members identifying this as their biggest need. Members also highlighted help with funding applications, identifying appropriate upgrades, and finding contractors or consultants.
The feedback shows that the challenge isn't just knowing that improvements are needed. Organizations also need help figuring out what to prioritize, how to pay for it, and who can help get the work done.
Overall, members appear interested in improving their buildings but need practical support and resources to turn those needs into actual projects.
